What Misery Does

On the brink of madness,
head in palms,
seated in a worn out chair

I turn to God I turn to God
And beg him not to be fair

I raise my head and look to see,
what I see heightens my despair!
Ruins surround me in piles and heaps
Heaps and heaps of dreams to keep.

Once long ago sometime ago
A bright eyed baby was born
The more he cried, the more he grew
The more he grew the more he cried

The sun shone on his soft brown skin
And darkened it with time
His face broke into wrinkles
And made him look so fine

The saddest of all tragedies is not
When a stranger breaks your heart
Its when the closest are out to hurt you
I've smelt a dagger from the start!

Sweet Melancholy

a pool I ask the builder to build
in the back of my house, beneath that tree
why the back? the builder asks
do as you're told!
i plan to fill my lovely pool
with a black and silver liquid
of melancholy
i have stored it all in bottles of wine
green and red and blue
all filled with my black silver melancholy
ill pour it all into my brand new pool
so I can make room for more
room for more

The Master

"Teach me what you know." I said "Teach me to be free!"
He wouldn't speak.
I begged, I bribed, I wept.
Silence.
I screamed, I tore at the curtains, I broke the glass.
Silence.
"TEACH ME!"
Silence.
I got tired fell in a heap on the cold stone floor and I slept. Could have been an hour or days. I woke up to strange musical murmurings. I looked around the cold stone room and saw the pale master looking at the floor and speaking very very low, whispering. He was so pale. Could almost not make out his face in the dark which was covered by the hood of his black cloak. His form was clearly visible in the soft moonlight. I crawled near. He smelled like midnight grass. And he was speaking..
He was speaking..
He was thankfully, speaking.
His voice fell like a waterfall on my ears. Its musical quality seemed to revive me. I didn't feel quenching thirst, the hunger that should have been there.
He was finally speaking..
Master said "O you who wants to learn I will teach you all that you want to know. I will teach you all that I know. I will teach you because I love the patient, I fear the weak, I envy the brave. He said I will teach you to write because that is all you need to be free. "
He said "O learner! When you pick up the pen to write, your hand shouldn't be picking up the pen but it should be your heart and soul in unison that hold the pen. He said when you write you need to throw away the mask, you need to peel away the skin, when you come to write you should come naked. If you write with fear of letting your guard down and if you write with shame at what you feel, then you don't write, you pretend. If you want to write, you can't be afraid, you cant be ashamed, you cant pretend."
He said "When you feel, don’t be ashamed of how you feel."
He said "Turn and look the feeling in the eye, grab it, crush it into words, put it onto paper."
He said "When you write, if you're tearful, I should sob hysterically when I read it, if you're angry, I should boil with rage when I read it, if you're falling in love, I should fall with you." He said "When you write, you open the floodgates to your heart and the depths of your soul."
He said "When you really really write: its real. If its real its powerful. If its powerful it can change the universe. It can shake the matrix that we're part of. It can light or darken paths. It can drive away shadows or create them."
He said "When you write: Write!"
Thats what he said.
Thats what the master said.
